Orlando’s City Hall To Get A New Roof

City Hall Orlando FloridaSo it looks like the roof at City hall in Orlando is slated to get a roof replacement. Interesting that Mayor Buddy Dyer says the cost of just the architectural plans will be in the 135k range…just for the design! The top of the roof is copper and apparently will be getting a make over to clean it up.

The Mayor and Dunn (city’s facility manager) further go on to say:

“It has multiple roof levels, because it pyramids on the way up so its a very difficult roof design to replace.”

Fleet and Facilities Manager David Dunn says the contractor/architect will have to go all the way down to the metal pan underneath the roof to inspect for any damage.

“We have a vinyl membrane, and we also have a copper dome. Now we don’t know the condition all the way down to that metal pan. There’s no way to physically see it without doing some kind of investigation to determine the existing conditions of the 22-year-old system.”

When asked about the actual cost of the new roof, Dyer states:

“I don’t think we have an overall budget just yet,” he says.

Whatever the cost end up being, it will be a large number for sure. It will certainly require a very experienced commercial roofing contractor to get the job done on such a complicated roofing system, not to mention a dangerous job at that. Either way, it will be nice to see a beautiful copper roof at our city’s epicenter.
